What can I say but great SUBs! The Italian and the Mr G are my go to subs when I'm in the mood for some cold cuts. They offer to scoop out the inside of the bread which I would suggest as it gives a better bread to meat ratio, plus still plenty of bun to hold everything together.
I love that they chopped up pickles instead of slices much better crunch and flavor. Also the meatball sub is good and they do not skimp on the meatballs like some other footlong spots.
I haven't had the pizza so I can't offer any advice on that item. But you canto go wrong with any of their subs.
My only complaint is not their fault but whack plastic straw ban.. they use a paper straw and like all paper straws it falls apart quickly.. not their fault though -

Been coming here for over 30 years. Great sandwiches with onion and pickle diced up and the carrots and hot peppers YUM!
Pepper steak is the main one but the other choices are all good . Pizza is great, taste old fashioned. Antipasto is a bomb salad.
Parking is horrible
Seating is limited
Right off 5fwy exit los Feliz. Almost in Glendale . -

This is our local pizza/pasta place. We've been coming here for, I don't know 20 years or more?! A solid neighborhood spot that has hearty portions of tasty pizza, sandwiches and pasta at a reasonable price. They've been around since 1964! There's an extensive menu with a variety of hot & cold sandwiches. You can get them toasted if that's your thing too and add tomato, onions etc as you like..
I love to get a (huge) meatball sandwich and eat half for lunch (with onions and spicy peppers) and then eat the other half for dinner. Or sometimes I'll warm up the other half around 2am when I get home from having too much fun bar crawling around my neighborhood of Atwater Village. Anyway..
Solidly hearty pasta choices like the ravioli, spaghetti and lasagna come with garlic bread and soup or salad. Get the savory meat sauce or marinara if that's your preference. I like the cheesy cannelloni that's on the specials board from time to time. The ravioli with meat sauce is homey and so satisfying. Like a meal at your Italian Aunties, the service is friendly and the portions are substantial. This is NOT a fancy place. However, the quality is quite good which is what really counts. We order take away or eat in regularly. We are always happy to have a place like Giamela's in our neighborhood. -

I love coming here. Being from the east coast it's very rare to find a sandwich shop here in California that reminds me of my beloved hoagies. Giamela's is pretty damn close! I met the owners at a yelp event and got to talking, turns out they're from around Philly! I immediately got excited and tried a few samples at the event and made it a point to go to the shop. I was not disappointed. First of all the bread is on point, the whole heart of a sandwich is the warm, crusty bread that soft on the inside, yum. Then, a lot of their sandwiches have artisan deli meats, not that reconstituted crap you find for a dollar at Walmart. Their veggies are plentiful and fresh AND they are one of the few places that understands the importance of offering dressing, like actual Italian dressing for the sandwich, as opposed to just mustard n mayo.
The shop itself seats maybe 20 ppl at the most but it's cute n small, service is friendly and they have a small parking lot but there's lots of street parking. Portions are really good, you'll probably have leftovers, prices are very fair. Be sure to try their pizza bread! -

I've went to Giamela's twice in the past week and I'm on the fence about how I feel about it. I had 2 coupons for a free regular sized sandwich when you buy a large drink.
Last week, I purchased a large coke and got the regular Italian sandwich with everything. First of all, the large drink is a literal tub of soda. If I finished it, I'd probably get diabetes. But for $3.50, I'm getting a sandwich, so I don't mind throwing out half the drink. The sandwich actually sucked though. The meat quality was not good and the bread was meh, kind of stale maybe, definitely not enough sauce. It didn't have the whole spread of Italian cold cuts, it only had two, and the cheap ones at that - ham and mortadella. It's also tiny for the $10 they charge, I would literally never pay that much for this sandwich. $3.50 was a stretch, I've enjoyed a 7 Eleven Italian sandwich more at that size/price point.
My second visit was much better. I came back yesterday and got the tub of coke, most of which I tossed because I didn't want a sweet drink (also not many drink options). I ordered the regular turkey and soppressata and it was actually great! Loved the cold cuts, the bread was well dressed, half was even a bit soggy from oil & vinegar, which I love. I stand behind the fact that I wouldn't pay $10 for such a tiny sandwich, but I'd buy a large.
I'd also come here once before and bought the large and I don't really remember how I felt about it but I'm pretty sure I was okay with it and for a buck or two more, it's a much bigger sandwich and I would consider buying that. I also tried their philly cheesesteak sandwich at an event and it was really dry and flavorless.
So I wouldn't rush back but I would consider getting a large turkey soppressata sub if I happened to be in a situation where someone I was with was getting a sandwich here. There are much better places to eat around Atwater Village though. I normally love italian sandwiches, but I would avoid this one. Based on the handful of times I've tried Giamella's sandwiches, I'd be wary about coming back since it's been a hit or miss every time.
